Given the complexity and sensitivity of the issues raised in each of the three films, we have found it important to develop and offer what we call a ‘dialogue infrastructure’. We provide media-based awareness tools around each film. These tools enhance authenticity in order to grow skills and qualities that support constructive dialogue such as: robust empathy, openness, active listening, asking questions, and awareness of self and other.
We facilitate film screening dialogues that enable participants to first witness the film’s protagonists’ journeys around diverse issues. Following Crossing Borders facilitates structured dialogues that enable peers to explore personal reactions, emotions and experiences in an open, safe, brave and nurturing context. We also embed clips from the films in our peer-led workshops, which enable participants to observe, explore and model vital skills and character strengths.
Each film stands on its own, focusing on interactions of youth from diverse cultural, ethnical and social backgrounds while bringing specific challenges and opportunities of cross-cultural communication into the foreground. As a trilogy they cover a wide range of topics and provide multiple authentic real life examples to deepen global awareness and intercultural skills.
If you would like to arrange for a Film Screening Event, Staff Demo or Workshop, please of course be in touch.
