Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.Howard Thurman
To live our full potential, to develop our character strengths, and to connect deeply is our best shot at serving our world at these divided times. Scientific research has identified five elements that create a life in which we can flourish. These elements for a flourishing life are: Curiosity, Initiative, Originality (Creativity), Wider Perspective and Empathy. As humans we have the incredible capacity to challenge ourselves and develop our skills intentionally. A vibrant opportunity for growing our character strengths are dialogues in which we move beyond our comfort zones.
DIALOGUE STAGES
There are very different ways of communication. One can enter discussions, debates, negotiations, dialogues, etc. The dialogue processes we co-create are moving through three stages that are like a spiral continuously returning to and building on each other. In each stage we are focusing on enhancing one virtue and three character strengths, even though many of these strengths are often used simultaneously. It is a bit like going to the gym: there might be times where you focus on building your abdomen even though you are using other muscles as well.
Below is a brief overview of the stages, virtues and character strengths we are intentionally developing.
