WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY!
We are so delighted that you have decided to support your small group of three or four people in one (or more) of our sessions. Many of us can initially feel a little bit shy or hesitant in groups, and your expressions of care can help people to be a little bit more at ease. This page supports you with insights and practical details so you can arrive prepared to your engaging dialogue sessions.
ROLE OF SMALL GROUP SUPPORTER
Most likely, you have experienced one or more of our sessions yourself. As a Small Group Supporter (SGS), you have the tools to support your group of 3-4 participants. The tasks themselves are simple (yet important) for your group, such as:
- Help people to feel welcome
- Read out the prompts
- Support equal airtime
- Model open sharing (you are also sharing as a participant)
- After small groups, share a brief insight (fishbowl)
Please watch the short Briefing Video below.
CHECKLIST
Before the first session, make sure that you:
- WATCHÂ the Briefing Video above
- CHECK IN: Arrive 10 min early to connect with your facilitator and 2 other SGSs
- DEBRIEF: Stay 10 min after the end of the session to debrief with the facilitator and other SGSs
- FOCUS: Make sure there are no distractions around you during the session
HELPFUL HINTS
- Be your natural, caring and welcoming self
- Trust the design and let the process do the work: your role is (just) to help people feel included and heard
- Remember that we are practicing dialogue skills: don’t feel you have to reach some sort of conclusion in your small group. The invitation is that everyone practices the skills to listen deeply and share authentically.
- In the fishbowl: share only one thought or insight from your group but be caring not to disclose personal information. We want to honour confidentiality, grow safety, and build trust.
Thanks so much for taking the time reading the information and watching the video.
