The Dialogue
The Dialogue, a 68 minute documentary created by Crossing Borders Films and co-produced by Michigan State University, follows four American and four Chinese university students as they travel together through Hong Kong and Southwest China. Together the students explore each others’ backgrounds and learn cross-cultural communication skills. Their shared travel adventures, the emotion of culture shock, honest confrontations and discoveries about each other become doorways to deepen their understanding of the world, of themselves and of styles of communication that are able to bridge cultural differences.
The Dialogue aims to grow social skills such as critical thinking and intercultural empathy, which enable students to communicate across cultural differences. The film comes with facilitation tools that support initiating honest conversations to strengthen a Culture of Dialogue on campuses. Discover the intercultural vision of The Dialogue in the Director’s Statement and explore the other films of our Intercultural Trilogy called Crossing Borders and American Textures.
Approached thoughtfully, The Dialogue can start powerful conversations and set the stage for bridge-building.Blaire Modic, Director of Study Abroad, Central College
