Welcome to this support page for Small Group Supporters
INSTEAD OF THIS QUOTE, I WOULD SUGGEST THE VIDEO MANUAL FOR SGS HERE
Welcome to the CBE community!
We are so delighted that you have decided to support your small group of three or four people in one (or more) of our sessions. Many of us can initially feel a little bit shy or hesitant in groups, especially when it is a group of strangers, and your expression of care can help people to be a little bit more at ease.
ROLE OF SMALL GROUP SUPPORTER
Most likely, you have experienced one or more of our sessions yourself so you know what to expect as a participant. As a Small Group Supporter, you can support your group that little bit more. Think of the following things:
- Read out the prompts and when necessary, copy them in the chat
- Make sure everyone has equal airtime
- Model open sharing (you are also a participant so this will come naturally)
- Make people feel welcome
- Share insights from the group in our fishbowl
CHECKLIST
Before the first session, make sure that you:
- Have watched the video manual (see above or click here)
- Arrive ten minutes early to check in with the facilitator and other Small Group Supporters
- Stay ten minutes after the end of the session to check in with the facilitator and other Small Group Supporters
- Make sure there are no distractions around you during the session
HELPFUL HINTS
- Be your caring and welcoming self
- Let the process do the work: you are there to make sure that everyone feels included and heard
- Remember that we are practicing dialogue skills: don’t feel you have to reach some sort of conclusion in your small group. Everyone shares with intention and listens deeply, that is more than enough
- In the fishbowl: share one thought or insight from your group but don’t share personal information. Keep your small group a safe space for everyone.
