Summary
This clip introduces a group of four US American and four Moroccan students who will be traveling and living together for a period of time.
Description
Biases and prejudices are challenged when we spend time and have interactions that go beyond the superficial with people who are “different” than us. Pay attention to the preconceptions the students from the United States and Morocco have about one another. How do you think these will be challenged as they travel together?
The first discussion
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
Chuck:Boy, has nothing changed in the past years? I feel it is becoming worse with stereotypes of Muslims.
Sarah:I feel that a lot has changed. People are making much more a difference between ordinary people and political interests.
Lyle: I feel we have become a little wiser of not only following our most basic reactions to media imagery. And yet it so depends on our level of awareness and skills to reflect.
Moving on somewhat
Tamara:It is quite striking to see the different pre-conceptions right next to each other... usually they are more implicit and isolated within groups.
Chuck:Autsch. I am not highly nationalistic, but it makes me a react a bit hearing them how they think about Americans.
Sarah:It is not very comfortable to hear what others think of us. But probably it is the same for them. It is good to reflect on why they think what they think...
